PRICE GOUGING FARM STAY / RESTAURANT THAT COMPLETELY DISREGARDS DINERS' DIETARY REQUIREMENTS Credit where credit is due, the property is stunning and the view from our room was amazing, but this is not a 5-star hotel, this is a very overpriced farm stay where they try to squeeze every nickel and dime out of people and do not understand the basics of customer service. We were welcomed on arrival, which was nice, but unfortunately from that point on I felt 'managed' by the reception staff rather than them recognising what we actually wanted. Our car and luggage were promptly taken to our room 800m away, even though our room was not yet ready, which meant that I wasn't able to get some essentials out of my bag. When asked to get our stuff we were told that it wasn't possible. Our room was spacious, but very sparsely furnished. The view was stunning and it would have been perfect to have a sofa to lounge on, but it only had 2 arm chairs, not even a single foot rest. The bathroom and kitchenette facilities were more resembling of a road side motel than a 5 star hotel charging $1000/night. Our room was not serviced on the first day, even though we were gone for most of it. We were given fresh fruit which the sign said was "picked daily", unfortunately, the fruit was not changed every day, and was rotting by the third day. The whole "eco" thing is just a marketing ploy and an excuse to cut costs by providing scratchy toilet paper and cutting back on amenities. There was no air conditioning available. While there were recycling bins in the room, when our room was finally cleaned, we saw the staff putting all the rubbish and recycling in the same bag... We asked for a late checkout, but were told that we had to pay additional fees even if we wanted to stay for an extra hour. I expressed my frustration to the reception staff about this considering that we were already paying $1000 USD per night. They eventually called back and advised that we could stay till 1pm, and they hoped that we would appreciate this. RESTAURANT: Our experience at the restaurant was one of the worst dining experiences I have ever had. Our agent made sure to advise the hotel that I was vegan before booking and was assured repeatedly that this would not be a problem. When booking the restaurant I reminded them that I was vegan, and again advised the waiter when we arrived. However the kitchen did not understand the instructions and kept sending food that did not meet my dietary restrictions. First with cheese, which I sent back, then replaced with cheese hidden on the bottom. Completely unacceptable! On our final night we were exhausted and did not want to drive to the neighbouring town so we thought we would give the restaurant another go. After all, it is supposed to be a restaurant at a Michelin key hotel. Despite again informing the staff that I was vegan when making the booking, and then again on arrival, I got the same cheesy dishes as the first time. After several times getting dietary restrictions ignored I had no confidence in their kitchen service so I cancelled the rest of the meal. At that point the restaurant manager finally realised that something was wrong. I described to him what had occurred previously and he was very apologetic, he did not charge us for dinner that night, but to be honest this was too little too late for us. This is supposed to be a quality restaurant for goodness sake, but they did not show even a basic level of care or competence on several separate occasions. We filled out their feedback form when leaving the hotel and never heard from them about our experience at the hotel or the restaurant. BOTTOM LINE - Beware of this tourist trap and avoid this hotel, and the restaurant, they will price gouge you at every point while showing utter and complete disregard for your needs and wishes.

Our stay at Monaci delle Terre Nere was the most disappointing part of our 10-day Sicilian holiday. As a member of the prestigious Relais & Châteaux association, we expected a luxurious experience, but it fell drastically short. Upon sending management an email with our concerns three weeks ago (see IMAGE attached) – we’ve still yet to hear from any of them. The only response we received is a scripted template from a junior customer service associate at Relais & Chateaux who didn’t address any of our points. SERVICE Subpar from the start. We arrived early, but after being told our room would be ready "momentarily," we waited over an hour with no updates, no property tour, and no access to our car or luggage. Requests for information went unanswered, and the lack of organization resulted in us missing a planned visit to Mt. Etna. We also kindly asked for the bicycles they offered, we never got them. LOCATION/PROPERTY While beautiful, there was no effort to introduce us to the history of the estate or its vineyards. The property is sprawling, yet there’s no signage, leaving guests to wander aimlessly. The “free” experiences, like the herb garden walk and chicken coup, were overhyped on their website yet a complete joke. We learned more from the Monaci website than during our stay at the estate. DINING/WINE- This was by far the worst meal we had during our 10-day tour of Sicily and did not live up to any standard of fine dining. The poorly executed pasta dishes were only made worse by our dining table covered in bugs, which the staff acknowledged, yet ignored leaving us to kill and clean up the bugs ourselves (see IMAGE attached). My partner is a wine connoisseur, and the entire reason for us staying at Monaci was to learn about the unique qualities of the region and Etna Rosso. The "sommelier" lacked basic wine knowledge, claiming the only difference between the extensive list of Etna Rosa vintages was the winemaker. She had to Google what the somm could not answer. BILLING- This a nightmare upon checking out. We were wrongly charged for complimentary water and had to argue to have the charge removed, not once, but twice. For a property charging €1,000 a night, this level of nickel-and-diming is beyond unacceptable.

The property was absolutely beautiful, but the service was even better! My wife and I just stayed here for two night but had we known how amazing this place was it might have been for two weeks. The staff was so friendly and helpful that I can’t single out any members of the staff because they were all incredible. Every single bite of food was delicious and the wine was so tasty. I highly recommend this resort to anyone looking for a relaxing first rate experience in Sicily.

Truly magical. A spectacular setting with amazing views, wonderful accommodation in cottages spread around the estate, fabulous food and wine and the most attentive and friendly staff.

Our three-night visit in September left us feeling let down, even with its "Relais & Châteaux" status. While the place has a few good points, they're outweighed by its problems, making it questionable value for money. The rooms were underwhelming, with beds that felt more suited to a low-budget hotel. The room was very humid. We found bugs in the bed on the first day and consistently in the bathroom throughout our stay. The food was a letdown. Our dinner for two cost a steep 450€ and was underwhelming. Being charged 15€ for a plain avocado at lunch further highlighted the unreasonable pricing. On the positive side, the location is beautiful and the pool area is nice—though the pool isn't heated. The welcome was also very friendly, so was most of the staff. However, these few good points unfortunately don’t make up for the overall experience. For those considering a stay here, we recommend exploring options. Ortigia in Syracuse, for instance, offers good lodging choices and is a great starting point for exploring Sicily's attractions like Mount Etna and Taormina. In summary, our time at the hotel was disappointing. The gap between what you pay and what you get is large. We recommend carefully weighing your options before making a booking decision.

Absolutely stunning! 10+ stars. What an amazing experience our family had. The staff are hands down the best. So caring and attentive to detail, and so courteous to our daughters. The food was simply masterful. Full of flavor and attention. The bar staff was so creative and personable. The wine tasting is a must. Best pasta making class ever. Chef is like Michael Jordan. So impressive and beautiful. What an unforgettable experience.

I recently spent two nights at Monaci delle Terre Nere, and it was a truly remarkable experience. Sustainability is a core value here, with much of the produce—fruits, vegetables, wine, and even eggs from 150 chickens—grown on the property. This commitment to self-sufficiency is reflected in the delightful breakfast offerings, which feature home-grown and locally sourced products. The breakfast was small but exquisite, showcasing the best of what the region has to offer. The hotel is situated in a very quiet location, perfect for a peaceful and relaxing stay. Communication was excellent, with staff readily available via WhatsApp to provide restaurant recommendations and other assistance. A special thanks to Nuwan and Davila for their exceptional service and hospitality during our stay. Their efforts made our visit even more enjoyable. Monaci delle Terre Nere is a fantastic hotel that we highly recommend. We look forward to returning in the future.

A wonderful 5 star experience with impeccable service, breakfast and dinner options. Food quality and true Sicilian soul food. From this property there are only a select couple of rooms with views of Etna, sun rise or sun set. Also, be advised the step in to the tub is quite high if you're elderly or have issues. The staff goes out of their way to accommodate in any way "with smiles". Book this Oasis with confidence and enjoy!

We had a terrible experience booking their cooking class. They were disorganized and we missed 30mins of the 1h30 because they couldn't get their act together. We felt like we were a bother and kept being put aside... for a 300€ class it's just a scam. The location itself is beautiful but its isolated in a random scary area. It is gated and well protected but it gives resort vibes which if you are in Italy is quite a shame.

Watch the small print at this place - they are making it up as they go along. The emails are ambiguous enough for them to make up whatever they want. An aperative as part of your package means mandarin juice… a 3 course meal excludes dessert. When they say you have wine with your meal they mean you are forced to drink Estate wine. Booked a Pool Villa via their direct website but ended up in a downgraded room without a pool, which they refused to accept. When challenged they told me they could put me in any room with the package because there were some ambiguous words - which any normal person would not have picked up. They tried to make it my fault. The website is very misleading so please be aware. The service is appalling - that is if you can actually find someone who can be bothered. The manager was useless at calming down a situation - infact made it worse. The food is beyond average and the wine is not worth the travel. I forced it down. Thankfully, they have wine from other places! The views are nice but our so-called estate room was ultimately over a carpark - which we could see through the trees. The way they handle service and disputes is terrible. Zero training. This hotel is trying to be something it is not. This is an incredibly expensive B&B. Fancy bar… but the towels are filthy grey and whilst they are attempting to class themselves as something luxury - the facilities overall are lacking, grubby, ants everywhere, there was bird poo on the seating by the pool which hadn't been cleaned in days, the pool itself was dirty, the public area toilets were not very clean. I absolutely hated it. We didn't even stay for breakfast as I was so desperate to leave. I feel completely ripped off. They also failed to satisfactorily deal with the problems I had raised and I left very very unhappy - very thankful I only committed to one night. Waste of a day of my holiday. There are so many good vineyards to go to - all of which are not pretending they are luxury or charging ridiculous prices - do your research. as you will see from their response… Yet again incapable of saying sorry without trying to make out it was my fault for raising their incompetence with them. As I said don't stay here they have absolutely no idea about service and how to treat people.

If you enjoy immersing yourself in vineyards and having 30+ acres in an organic farm to explore on your own, amidst 17th century monastic buildings -- this is your place. I had read about their wines in a major US publication and when I saw that they were also a hotel/premium restaurant, we really wanted to stay here when visiting the Etna area. While it's luxurious, it's not priced out of sight. Incredibly helpful international staff, all fluent in at least three languages as far as I could tell. The website needs some work as there are room categories, but literally every room is unique. We were originally given a more contemporary-styled room within a rustic building but we wanted the complete rustic experience. Fortunately, they accommodated us in what you'll see in the pictures below was pretty spectacular. Best advice: contact the hotel or through your travel advisor and ask for pictures of the room they expect to assign you, if this matters to you. The bar is well stocked, especially with gins from Sicily, greater Italy and other parts of the world. Great bartender, listened well and helped us pinpoint flavor profiles we were interested in. The wine here is superb as well, you just can't go wrong with any white or red pick. We also did their Etna DOC wine tasting which is a bit pricey due to the high quality of wine you are tasting. I would actually do the tasting that focuses just on their own wines and is about a third of the price. Be sure to give yourself a half day to explore the entire growing area. There are multiple villas of various sizes and features around the property, including their vegetable garden, fruit orchards, and house, and of course vineyards. Highly recommend staying, tasting, and eating at the Monaci.
